For every Young Minister 3 (a must read)
Lessons from David (3)
Have you Read part 2 of it? If No, Click here to read
David was a leader.
The most intriguing is the fact that he led from youth .
Like most of us he was vulnerable to youthful exuberances .
Yet being young isn't an escape route to be silly ,you must be responsible in your conduct

2 Timothy 2:22 KJV
[22] Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Paul admonishes Timothy severally on this
You must yet show good conduct and worthy of emulation
1 Timothy 4:12 KJV
[12] Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

You need not act your age ,act the word.
David had certain exemplary traits we can study for our learning

Romans 15:4 KJV
[4] For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

We have seen his faithfulness in little things and his sincerity in faults and failures.
David had respect and honor for authority. Spiritual authority.
Saul was a contrast.
Besides coercing Samuel to appear like all was well, he was a brutal person with power.
From the fellow who related mildly with Saul earlier on..

1 Samuel 9:21 KJV
[21] And Saul answered and said, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou so to me?

He had now started leading, wealth had come and glamour. Power and influence.
Enough praise singers.
When God told Samuel to anoint David, Samuel became afraid of Saul

1 Samuel 16:2 KJV
[2] And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me.

He will use his media influence against me, set his ministers after me, he might destroy my ministry, he has the clout, money and influence. God understood

And the Lord said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the Lord.
Imagine, Gods hitherto servant now lord over all.

1 Peter 5:3 KJV
[3] Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

He had become the proverbial Dog that has failed to heed the masters call.
He became more ferocious.

1 Samuel 18:11-12 KJV
[11] And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it . And David avoided out of his presence twice.
12] And Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, and was departed from Saul.

He knew God was with David, yet had no regard for that.
His ego was king to him.

David contrasted this.
2 Samuel 12:25 KJV
[25] And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord .

He still deferred to Nathan the Prophet.
He treats Saul with More honor and dignity.

1 Samuel 26:11 KJV
[11] The Lord forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.

He had several chances to take his own pound of flesh .
Write on Facebook to "Finnish Saul off ".
Help on line blogs re- publish stuff about Saul .
He refused.

The Pulpit mustn't be used to settle personal scores.
Much later, Saul was killed in battle.

What a time to gloat and salivate victory over a competitor in ministry.

David Chose honor.

2 Samuel 1:4-5 KJV
[4] And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.

The reporter was assuming this was good news, such and such church has been closed now.
Glory to God ..

[5] And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead?

David asked "how did you know"

2 Samuel 1:6 KJV
[6] And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

He had details of the fall of a man of God. He took his time to read up, ask questions, do Fb chat, blackberry messaging.
Curious fellow.

Tell tales brethren mustn't be allowed near leadership .
If they tell u about others ,they will do the same about you to others .

I keep "gist merchants" at arms length as a matter of principle.
I have borne their brunt.
David dealt decisively with him, his own way.

2 Samuel 1:12 KJV
[12] And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the Lord, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

It wasn't a time to clap and say "I told you so"
Dad Hagin said "making your brothers light go dim doesn't make yours shine brighter"

A candle lose NOTHING if its used to light another.

1 Peter 4:8 KJV
[8] And above all things have fervent charity (love) among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

We must honor those who hurt us too.
Honor those who fail
Romans 14:4 KJV
[4] Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

Respect them still
Love them.
1 Peter 3:8 KJV
[8] Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

David gave a decree in all the Land
2 Samuel 1:20 KJV
[20] Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

Two take aways,
We mustn't rejoice over evil or woe befallen another, we must mourn.
More so, telling it on social media (Gath) and making it a gist (askelon) will bring shame to us as well.
I "delete" dishonoring folks from leadership.
Till they reform from their stupidity of thinking since everyone is saying it so should I,forgetting that as an aspiring leader you act differently.

David was a man of Honor.

Aaron and Miriam were that foolish too

Numbers 12:1,9 KJV
[1] And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
9] And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them; and he departed.

It didn't matter if social media folks did question and answers on Moses action
You are a leader.
It took Moses intervention
Learn honor.
Respect for authority.
I once spoke with a preacher almost 18 years ago. We were on campus together.
From the obscenities he used against ministers, I guessed he might not be planning to stay long in this work.

I planned to, so even though he was making sense in his sight, I didn't contribute.
What you disrespect, you don't attain.
I must have guessed right, as he's been out of ministry well over 12 years now.
Watch what you spew on social media, private gists etc.

Learn from David.

Learn from scriptures .

With all the 9 gifts blazing through you and all the ministry gifts deposited in you ,please add honor ,as many have treaded this path before and are no where to be found .
Stay humble ,stay respectful .
Stay innocent .
Jesus is Lord,I call You blessed.

Pst Segun Onayinka.

Have a blessed evening Saint.
